Donna is usually first recognized as the model from the Visa Black Card Advert where she memorably and elegantly jumped from a black helicopter into the sea to be picked up by a speedboat. Her fans also remember her from the Justin Timberlake music video “Seniorita”. She has appeared on the covers of many magazines and was a series regular in the TV show “Fashion House”. Donna has featured in numerous campaigns for many fashion and product labels such as Revlon, Sean John, Panasonic, Verizon Wireless, Bebe, and Diesel. At a recent interview we found out from Donna how she manages to stay in shape and live a balanced life despite her hectic schedules.
MODE: We see that you are a world traveler. Where have been your favorite destinations?
Donna: I’m grateful to be in a business that’s brought me to so many gorgeous places from Thailand to Hawaii, Fiji to Greece, and the list goes on. However, the most beautiful place I’ve ever been to by far was Bora Bora.
MODE: With such a busy lifestyle, how do you keep yourself fashionable while still getting on with the rest of your life?
Donna: The way I dress depends on my mood. I’ve always been a fashionista though. So much so that I even studied fashion in college. Even if it’s casual jeans and a t-shirt look, I still enjoy looking more put together than not caring at all. Getting ready doesn’t need to be an hour-long process, but putting in 10-15 minutes to look more refreshed and fashionable really makes a difference in the way you present yourself to the world. If I’m traveling though, you’re more likely to see me in comfy pants, sneakers, and a baseball hat.
MODE: What are your makeup and beauty choices to start your day?
Donna: If I have a meeting or an audition, for example, this is 10-15 minutes process I’m talking about. It includes putting hair up in some travel size rollers, spraying a little Aveda hairspray, exfoliating face with a mild scrub in the morning, toning, moisturizing, and then applying my favorite foundation (Armani Luminous silk) followed up by some nice natural bronzer, some light blush, a pretty highlighter, some light eyeshadow/natural bronze color liner, mascara, lip gloss, and then a hydrating facial mist which helps set it all and helps you have that healthy glow throughout the day.
MODE: What are your exercise routines to keep your fabulous shape?
Donna: Luckily I am 5’10” so it helps in appearing longer and leaner, but I workout twice a week with a personal trainer to help keep myself toned, stress free, and pain free.
MODE: Are you into any special diet regimen and if so do you have cheat meals?
Donna: I love food but most of the time I like to fill up on healthy food. I don’t eat too much gluten, no red meat, no sodas, and I like to keep the desserts for weekends. If I have to have a cheat meal it would either be a huge amazing pizza or some delicious French fries.
MODE: What exciting plans do you have for the future?
Donna: My plan is to shoot a short film, which could potentially lead to a really interesting character in a feature or television series. It’s a kick ass, almost superhero type woman so it’s going to be very fun. I also plan to launch a site called www.secretsofamodel.com. It will be a blog all about the inside tips and tricks of the trade that will now be available for all women no matter what industry they’re in. Eventually, I would love to have my own brand in the beauty/fashion world. Someone like Kathy Ireland is a huge inspiration for me being an empowered, successful, entrepreneur! That’s the ultimate goal.
MODE: So many people look up to you. What advice can you give them, from your experience, on how to live a successful and happy life?
Donna: I would say to never stop working hard. Always be grateful, be humble, network with the right people, and stick close to your family and friends who truly support your dreams and help inspire you to keep growing.
