MODE: At what stage in your life did you decide you wanted to get into acting and  and what made you decide to go in that direction?
Antonella: I really think that I was born with the idea of being an actress already fixed in my brain. I was fascinated with the cinema since I was a child and I followed this fascination step-by-step almost without guidance into acting. I started taking lessons at school but pretty soon began to wonder why I was virtually the only one interested in attending class. For me it was a passion and a vision of life, almost like a call from the universe!

M: What artist or artists inspire you?
A: I’ve loved all The performances of Meryl Streep From Kramer vs. Kramer. I can’t forget her intense expression in front of the judge when explaining why she had to leave her child and her pleading so desperately to be forgiven by the jury. It is one of those classic scenes in the history of cinema and is my favorite monologue to play at auditions. I was also impressed by her versatility in playing the role of a strong, inflexible woman in “The Devil Wears Prada” and immediately later the musical “Mamma Mia” where she was outstanding, singing and dancing like a child. Another great actress known for her beauty and feminine aspect is the unforgettable Marilyn Monroe, so tender in her fragile soul. Even though she tried till the very end to show her true personality and her talent, I feel when watching her movies now that she most yearned to be loved.

M: Do you have other family members in acting or modeling or are you the trailblazer?
A: I am the only one in my entire family to have gone down this artistic road. It was really hard to tell my parents finally that my dream and decision was to be an actress. At the very beginning when you still haven’t had the chance to show any true potential skills it would sound like saying, “Hey, I’m Napoleon and I want to conquer the world.”

When I started my first steps in modeling it was a good way to express part of my interior world of emotions. I did many photo shoots for beauty, commercials, billboards and some covers. I have to admit that I really love being in front of the camera. By the way, I was not happy to be just an image and wanted to be more three-dimensional; using my voice, my body and my soul .

M: Have you had to give up other options or made difficult life choices because of your chosen career?
A: Yes of course, in order to follow the “artistic road” I had to make many sacrifices that often no one can even see because the reality is that all people want to see is the results.

I started my career very young as a model so I lost so many important stages of my adolescence and contact with friends of the time. Additionally I was forced to leave the university because I couldn’t reconcile the demands of work with study. To be honest, after high school I wanted to go into medicine but I was conscious that I would have to give up my bigger dream of the cinema. Maybe the world has lost a doctor but I hope to contribute positively too as an international actress.

M: How would you say acting and modeling have affected your personal relationships over the years? What are the pluses and the minuses?
A: If you look from the outside it is easy to envy actors and their world but I need to defend this category. It is too easy to see and think the actor’s life is all about the glamour of the red carpet in the famous film fests and such, however, life on the set is really strict and professional; it needs courage, discipline and good health.

I used to play in many thrillers and sometimes it could become very dangerous during a scene. For instance, once I had to do a scene closed in a wooden coffin and when they opened up I was submerged by a torrential rain almost frozen. That literally took my breath away; it was real cinema! Often in relationships the partner has a prejudice  that you, as an actress, are not real and that you pretend to be in love and to have feelings. It is difficult to deal with that.

M: What do you do to stay healthy and in shape?
A: I think being lucky in genetics plays a big role but it is not enough so you have the duty to preserve that God’s gift and encourage it with proper nutrition and regular exercise. I find it much better to focus on proper nutrition than fads such as fasting that can negatively affect the body.

M: You spend quite a bit of time traveling. What are the main countries you visit for work and pleasure and what do you like most about each one?
A: You are right, as a good Sagittarius I am fond of traveling! I travel often to the US and consider it my second home. I am very familiar with Los Angeles as I used to live there and it is where I’ve studied with the best acting coaches of Hollywood. I recently shot a movie in New York and also did a photo shoot there on the top of a famous building with a vertiginous view from the roof. I have a special place in my heart for Miami with lovely friends and the high quality lifestyle. Miami is somewhere I could even consider moving to in the future.

M: What sort of music do you listen to when you want to relax?
A: In order to relax my mind, especially on the set to get inspirations by some melody, I prefer lounge music, but to energize myself I love all the Bryan Adams’ songs, the rock and the ballad. My favorite song is “Everything I do, I do it for you” and it is exactly what I would say to my future man.

M: What do you have planned for the near future? Any projects in the works?
A: I am about to go to Cannes to finish shooting the movie ” Enforcer”, another interesting and intense Italian movie written from the heart just like our typical Italian passion and edge.
