Terry Dexter has been a force in the music industry from age 9, starting out as a member of a local girl group Tristar and at 19 was signed to Warner Bros. The following year she began to gain wider public attention with the release of her self-titled album “Terry Dexter” from which came two top-20 R&B on Billboard charting single releases “Better Than me” and “Strayed Away”. The “Better Than Me” single is one of our favorites, so much so that the editors lost a bit of focus and started dancing to it in the middle of work. After such incredible success of the first album she followed it with the second album “Listen” that peaked at 43 on the US Top R&B Albums chart!
Terry is popular as a collaborative artist too, co-writing Patti Labelle’s single “Anything” featuring Kanye West and Mary Mary. She was a powerful and sweet counterpoint when featured in Jaheim’s (Jaheim Hoagland) single “Remarkable” from the album “Ghetto Love” – a people’s favorite for wedding songs till this day.
As a multi-talented artist, Terry has found expression not only in music but also as an actor, making her feature film debut as Valerie in the 2003 movie “Deliver Us from Eva”. She has applied her writing and singing skills to various film and television scores and soundtracks. Terry continues to create and explore her artistic horizons and the world is surely a much better place because of it.
